The European Union has demanded that all smartphones be equipped with easily replaceable batteries

According to the European coalition Right to Repair, all devices and electric cars within the European Union have been voted to switch to easily replaceable batteries. A bill on this issue can be adopted this year. Its entry into force in the European Union may take place in the next 12-14 months. The initiative, made by MEPs, aims to extend the life of digital devices and reduce e-waste. A special document has been prepared for this purpose, according to which manufacturers must ensure easy replacement of batteries in all household electronics and light vehicles.

In addition, according to this bill, a replacement battery for an electronic product must be on sale for at least 10 years after its release on the market. The decision to further develop this initiative must be made tomorrow by the European Environment Council. Experts say that the current recommendations of the European Parliament are still far from being implemented. In order to pass such a bill, the parliament must first negotiate with the Council of Europe. If the bill is successful, it is expected to be implemented in about 2024. Thus, manufacturers must have some time to prepare their products in accordance with the requirements of the bill.
